London (YPI) -- Can Liz Truss’ Premiership truly be judged at such a premature time? At times of hardship, one can argue, a Premiership is best judged.

Liz Truss ensured the public, upon running for leadership, that she would “deliver” and promised to “hit the ground running.” In recent times, however, the cost of living has risen and Liz Truss’ plans to deliver on its reduction were rapidly overshadowed by the death of Her Late Majesty. Truss, obliged by her political position, has appeared at various events regarding Her Majesty’s death. She has been required so suddenly and so prematurely in her Premiership to comfort a mourning nation. Thus it will often be argued that it would simply be unjust to judge such a premature and overshadowed Premiership. As is the opinion of YPI readers who vastly agreed that it was too premature to judge in a recent poll. But, on the other hand it must be recognised that in times where something is sudden, where a hardship is given upon a Prime Minister at a premature time - are times in which the true ability of a Prime Minister in leadership is revealed. Not to judge her Premiership at this time would be overshadowing a rare look at the true nature of Truss as a l leader.

Were we to look at Truss’ handling of the Queen’s death (without comparison to others) it would be thought of as a composed, unifying response - simply because it is standard of a politician to react in the way she has. But were we to consider that Liz Truss has become Prime Minister as a result of her loyalty towards Boris Johnson, not as a result of her own promise in the job. Because of this Truss’ Premiership will never reach the extent it can. Johnson’s response was far more captivating than that of Truss. This is because Johnson is a more natural speaker than Truss. However it only further enforced an idea that Truss is a ‘placeholder- if you will- for the true Tory favourite’s return.

Furthermore, Truss has proved a level of competence at Prime Ministers’ Questions which was unexpected by some. She appeared for the most part, composed and witty in her response to some questions.
Her premiership has promise but will never flourish to full capacity due to her being viewed by her party as being a placeholder for Johnson’s eventual return.
